I met Hazel on my first day at work in 1963 in Herefordshire County Libraries HQ. She was the senior assistant assigned to watch over this raw, 16 year old and she taught me the rudiments of card filing, book shelving, information searching and assisting library users. She shared her knowledge freely and with enthusiasm and more than that, she became my role model- not just at work but in life. Our friendship, Hazel, Les, John and I, was long lived - over 50 years. We were always there for each other, throughout life's ups and downs. Enjoying each other's company, sharing our hopes and dreams. Always the first visitors whenever we moved to new homes. Just having relaxed times together, walking, talking, caring and lots of laughter. I do miss them all so much.
