One of my fondest memories of Granny Hazel was when I was propped up on top of the kitchen worktop, when I was a child, and would be in awe of her making an apple pie from scratch. She would always let me roll out the crust and once I’d got the hang of that then taught me how to lattice a crust. Next time I would visit it would be watching her make a rhubarb crumble - we would go out and pick the biggest ripest stalks in her garden and prep the fruit and crumble mixture by getting my hands sticky, full of butter and breadcrumbs. I was always wanting to learn from my Gran whether it being some of her generational recipes or just her way of life. Hazel was always so happy and she made everyone around her feel so much joy, peace and warmth. I will miss her singing the entire track list of Oklahoma! and her hugs ❤️
